About
Derry City & Strabane District Council is developing a new museum, the DNA Museum, set to open in 2026 at the historic Ebrington site. It will be a modern, interactive space celebrating the area’s global heritage. Alongside it is the Guildhall, a popular and beautifully restored venue already welcoming over 170,000 visitors each year.
The Brief
The Council was looking for expert independent advice on the best ticketing, events management and EPOS systems to improve the visitor experience, create operational efficiencies and drive growth, whilst supporting the development of a brand new attraction.
Challenge
The internal team were struggling with a lack of knowledge of the ticketing, EPOS and events management technology market. They had started to look at systems but felt confused and overwhelmed.
They were at a crossroads. Should they keep reaching out to suppliers or stop, reflect, and seek expertise, before entering into the public procurement process?
Solution
Through public procurement, the Council appointed Sarah and ReWork. They not only brought technology market insight, but also offered operational and commercial experience in running and opening new venues and attractions, proving invaluable to the project.
A comprehensive discovery phase followed, including a series of 121 and group meetings. Sarah reviewed business processes and plans and provided a clear strategy to support the Council’s needs.
The standard of project management, through Sarah’s regular updates, weekly meetings, and clear communication, gave all stakeholders confidence in ReWork’s approach.

Impact
The breadth and depth of the discovery phase far exceeded expectations. They were provided with strategic and practical tips for improvement across the multiple venues they operate.
This consultation will enable the team to choose the right system, streamline the business, maximise commercial opportunities, and plan appropriately for the opening of the new museum. ReWork’s observations and recommendations were presented in a comprehensive guide, which will serve as an invaluable tool beyond procurement, pre-launch, and opening.
“Sarah has helped us change the way we approach procurement projects and now we will place greater value on seeking independent advice. I feel confident about how we move forward with procurement, and organisational changes and plan for a successful opening of the DNA museum”
