Spreadsheet Chaos!

Spreadsheet Chaos!

At ReWork we believe that for every problem there is a workable solution, when it comes to software procurement.

The way we help you collate and prioritise and view the requirements across your whole business ensures suppliers are aware of where your business is heading and whether they are best placed to support you on that journey.

Compare this approach with the never ending spreadsheets of requirements, with vague and convoluted descriptions, which so often create difficulties during implementation and beyond.

How do you prioritise what you want?

In 1994 software development expert Dai Clegg created the MoSCoW (Must, Should, Could, Won’t/Wish) method, to help his team prioritise tasks during development work on product releases.

Back in the 90’s this was deemed more effective than the traditional “high, medium, low” method to prioritise requirements.

Suppliers will be very familiar with the sight of the spreadsheet with hundreds of rows of individual requirements, with a large proportion leaning towards a ‘MUST’.

It’s our job at ReWork to question whether these traditional methods are still the most effective for today’s ticketing procurement.

The MoSCoW method is far from perfect, here are just a few of the issues if you’re considering using this method;

  1. How do you rationalise the ranking of requirements, when one department says something is a ‘must’, but to others it is a ‘should’.
  2. How does this method help you decide between multiple requirements with the same priority?
  3. How do you deal with the ambiguity over timing and commitment by the supplier, especially surrounding the ‘Won’t’ category.

As part of the ReWork process, we make sure finding out what the client needs is as simple as possible.

This ensures your future ticketing partner understands your business objectives and can make a clear call on whether they can support your future growth.

We start with the ‘ReWork Discovery’ phase, which focuses on identifying gaps within your business and providing suggestions to move forwards.

We will ensure the priority is on a high level overview of where you want to be, and how you’re going to get there!

This provides the perfect opportunity for ReWork to evaluate all suppliers, to create an initial short list. This is always with the aim of providing you with the best partners to achieve your long term goals.
