The Business of asking Smarter Questions
What makes a good question?
How good are we at asking smarter questions in business?
Questions that sparked lots of interesting discussion during ‘Asking Smarter Questions’, hosted by Sam Knowles at the Brighton Chamber event this week.
The late Queen loved to ask everyone she met “What Do You Do?”
Ironically this is one of my least favourite questions, as it feels like it defines who you are, by the work you do.
Sam shares some great examples of how asking the right questions can have such a profound impact on our daily lives and how we can all become better at asking questions.
On a work level, asking yourself the right questions can so often be the catalyst to a project/task/problem being solved successfully.
Whether you’re approaching a product launch, system procurement, a re-development project, or simply feel overwhelmed with tasks ahead.
Let’s stop and consider the right questions
Before rushing ahead, taking time to think about how and what the best questions are, can save us time in the long run, but also open opportunities and ways of working, we may not have previously considered.
As ReWork begins the discovery phase of a new project, there are a lot of questions to ask.
Only by asking the right kind of questions, can we begin to fully understand the requirements and how we can help solve problems.
If you’re struggling to get started, here are just a few to get get the ball rolling……
- What easy step can you take to start the ball rolling?
- Why is this important to you?
- Who can I ask to help me get there quicker?
- What can I do now?
- Who else knows about this subject?
- What’s the end goal?
- When do I want this to be completed?
- When does it need to be completed?
- What does complete look like to you?
Have the answers to your questions, but still have no time to move the project forwards?
