ReWork Consulting

Where do you want to work?

Because people sit at the heart of what we do at ReWork, attracting and retaining talent to the attractions sector plays a pivotal role in the delivery of our services.

We could sit here all day and debate the various reasons why the leisure and hospitality industries have lost talent to other sectors through the pandemic, but the question remains….

How are we attracting talent back to the visitor attractions sector and keeping it?

I wanted to take a minute to refer back to Kelly Molson’s thought provoking interview with Jakob Wahl, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of IAPPA on the Rubber Cheese Podcast

Jakob talks about the need to bring on board more young people to the industry. He cites certain brands which align themselves with the younger audience as something that we as a sector could learn from.

As Jakob rightly points out, our purpose as a sector is bringing fun to the people, which gives us a unique selling point. But I wonder, is fun enough?

Some might say, one of the major issues is down to pay, but at ReWork we believe that’s just too simple a view.

I recently read this interesting article, which looks at how young people are more hungry for fulfilment than generations before. Who place more importance on it than salary!

At ReWork we believe the key to attracting and retaining more young people could be our ability to understand what drives them.

If you’re not young (this counts me out!), then we need to be asking young people.

Why would they want to work in your organisation?

What matters to them?

So the next time you’re pondering over the high turnover of young people in your teams, or having more trouble than usual recruiting.

One question that could be at the heart of the issue, is whether our organisations are addressing the ‘need for fulfilment’ from these young people?

I’d love to hear from you, if you’ve made any changes to improve how young people might feel about working with you…………

And importantly what impact is that having on your business?
